** UPDATE #16 **
HIGHWAY 1/ROCKY CREEK VIADUCT PROJECT CONTINUES IN 2013 WITH DAYTIME ROADWORK AND OVERNIGHT CLOSURES

MONTEREY COUNTY –Daytime roadwork on Highway 1 continues next week from 7 am to 5 pm Monday, Feb. 4 through Friday, Feb. 8.Overnight closures continue from 9pm to 7am Sunday, Feb. 3 through Thursday, Feb. 7 (opening Friday at 7am)
Construction continues with drilling work for the viaduct columns and bridge column installation.

Highway 1 at Rocky Creek has one-way signalized traffic control 24/7. Traffic will be stopped for 10 minutes at a time during daytime roadwork. Full overnight closures will be scheduled five nights a week Sundays through Thursdays until the end of March*, unless otherwise indicated. No overnight closures will occur on Friday/ Saturday nights.

The project to construct a permanent viaduct about 15 miles south of Carmel near the Rocky Creek Bridge began on Sept. 4. Completion is scheduled by Labor Day, weather permitting. Daily roadwork schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions and other factors so stay tuned for regular updates.

The contractor for this $11 million viaduct project is Golden State Bridge of Martinez, CA.

In order to minimize traffic impact as part of the project, there will be advance notification for motorists, residents and businesses via a traffic hotline, electronic message signs and email roadwork updates.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway work zones.

For more information, please visit: http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist05/paffairs/ orcontact the Hwy. 1 Cambria to Carmel Toll-Free Hotline at 888-836-0866.

* The original press release states “Full overnight closures will be scheduled five nights a week Sundays through Thursdays until the end of February, unless otherwise indicated.”
I noticed this was incorrect and contacted Susana Cruz and got her permission to update this press release to the Big Sur community to state that the full overnight closure is scheduled until the end of March. This is consistent with the information on the toll free hotline. ~ Stan
