Marine Sanctuary Seeks Applicants for Advisory Council

NOAA’s Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary is seeking to fill seats on its advisory council, which represents the public’s interests in sanctuary matters and provides advice to the sanctuary superintendent. Sanctuary staff are currently accepting applications for the following seats: At-Large (2), Business Industry, Commercial Fishing, Conservation, Recreation, Recreational Fishing, and Research. Candidates will be selected based on their expertise and experience in relation to the seat for which they are applying, community and professional affiliations, and knowledge regarding the protection and management of marine resources.

The Monterey Bay Sanctuary Advisory Council was established in 1994 to provide ongoing public input on sanctuary management issues. The volunteer council’s twenty voting members and five ex-officio members represent a variety of local user groups, the general public, and state and federal governmental jurisdictions. Alternates attend meetings when primary members are not available and assume a seat if a primary member resigns. Specifically, the council’s role is to provide the sanctuary superintendent with advice on the sanctuary’s resource protection, research, education and outreach programs.

Ghost Hunting at Point Sur Lightstation.
November 23 & 24
Paranormal investigator and Point Sur docent Julie will lead a small group of enthusiasts on an investigation of Point Sur’s historic buildings. Recognized as one of America’s most haunted lightstations, Point Sur is fertile ground for the few paranormal investigators who have gotten permission to "hang out with the spirits." The early evening event will last from 4:00 PM until 10:00 PM.

Big Sur Harvest Faire
The 32nd Annual Big Sur Harvest Craft Fair Is being held on Thanksgiving Weekend Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th 10 am to 5pm at the Grange Hall, located one mile south of the River Inn in the heart of Big Sur.
