Construction continues with drilling work for the viaduct columns and bridge column installation.

Full overnight closures will be scheduled five nights a week Sundays through Thursdays until the end of March, unless otherwise indicated. 1. Hi Stan,
I will be driving for the first time from Los Angeles up to Big Sur the week of March 10, 2013, along highway 1 to enjoy the scenery and explore Big Sur. Will this construction effect me at all? I am confused as to where exactly it is taking place.
    Thank you.

  2. Hi Amy, this construction project is located about 10 miles south of Carmel so unless you were driving all the way to Carmel you wouldn’t even see this. That being said, if you did want to drive up to Carmel you would encounter a one lane road with a light that allows traffic to go through. It isn’t a big deal at all. You will encounter some construction on Highway 1 in southern Big Sur with a one-way light there as well. Like I said, it isn’t a big deal. FYI, Highway 1 is always under repair of some sort. Its just that kind of a road.

    • Thank you so much. Your blog has been very informative and I’m looking forward to my trip to beautiful California!

  3. Hi Amy, If you would like we can mail you a Big Sur Guide which has a map of the 90 miles of Big Sur coastline. This will show where everything is located. If you want one send us an email with your address to
