Community Update: Andrew Molera and JP Burns State Park widen opening

Hello Big Sur!

Community Updates
Today the Soberanes Fire is at 97% containment and it is estimated it will be 100% contained by October 15. This does not mean the fire it is out, just that it is contained. It will take a sizable rain event to put out all the fires that are smoldering in the wilderness. To date the cost of the Soberanes Fire is $236,000 million dollars and counting.

Come November look for community meetings regarding the Big Sur Community Fuel Break. Per Andrew Madsen, Los Padres National Forest, Sam Farr wrote financing for this into legislation. This is to maintain fire breaks to protect the Big Sur community and to limit the spread of wildfires.

    • Hi Cynthia, I think its pretty safe to say Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park will be open by Friday, October 14. Maintenance work on the trails is scheduled to be completed by Wednesday, October 12. Hopefully the trails will be open by the weekend after that. When it opens, it will include the Tan Bark Trail as well.
