FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STATE ROUTE 1 SLIDE REMOVAL PROJECT NEAR SYCAMORE CANYON ROAD BEGINS MONDAY

MONTEREY COUNTY – Caltrans will begin a slide repair project on State Route 1 just north of Pfeiffer Canyon (MON PM 45.84) on Monday, May 15. This is within the closure for the Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge and will only affect residents of Pfeiffer Ridge Road and Sycamore Canyon Road. Details are as follows:

1. Slide removal operations just north of the Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge project, which we are calling the “trailer slide” will begin next Monday, May 15. To perform the slide removal work we will be placing k-rail (temporary guardrail) on Monday and there will be STOP sign controls in place 24/7 at PM 45.84 just north of Sycamore Canyon Road. This is within the closure for the bridge project and will only affect residents of Pfeiffer Ridge Road and Sycamore Canyon Road. Flaggers will control traffic during work hours. There may be some delay as we load out trucks.

2. To perform the work at the slide, we had to relocate the 3 dumpsters that the locals have been using to dispose of their trash. These are now located about ¼ mile to the north just inside the closure at the MAF turn-around. I have notified the waste management company of this change. We will return the dumpsters when the slide removal is complete, which is expected by the end of May, weather permitting.

3. On a separate note, the temporary signal at the Molera embankment repair, PM 51.4, was removed yesterday but we will still have one way traffic control today and part of next week to complete the work in this area.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway

work zones.
