KSBW Reports First Steel Girders for Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge Arrived This Morning

From KSBW Caitlin Conrad

The first steel girders for the new Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge arrived in Big Sur this morning.

The girders are being shipped from the paint yard near Stockton. Each convoy will contain a 62-foot, 62-ton steel girder for a total of 15 girders/trucks being escorted by the California Highway Patrol.

The old bridge failed in February and a new single span steel bridge is being built over the canyon along Highway 1 in Big Sur. The $24 million project began in March and is expected to be accessible to the travelers in late September 2017.
