Highway 1 Climbing Lane Project Update for Week of July 2nd

Our area is expected to experience heavy holiday traffic this weekend through next Sunday. Highway 1 will be especially affected. Please plan accordingly,

allow extra travel time. Check travel apps such as Waze for sigalerts related to this intersection.

Work crews will have regular daytime work hours Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There will be no work at the construction

site on Wednesday, July 4th.

New this week:

• ‘No Parking” signs have been placed near the entrance of Point Lobos on the east side of Highway 1. This will allow better access by emergency vehicles, which is particularly important during heavy holiday traffic. CHP will enforce this restriction.

• Additional directional signage has been painted on the roadway to help keep those crossing Highway 1 at Rio Road out of the right lane, which is right turn only. Back-ups were occurring as

drivers tried to get out of the wrong lane. To avoid congestion, those leaving the Crossroads can use Carmel Rancho Boulevard to pick up Highway 1.

• Caltrans crews will be onsite Monday working to coordinate their light at Highway 1 and Rio Road with the County light at Rio and the Crossroads.

Remember – business and shopping centers near the construction area are open! For easier access, drivers can detour to Carmel Valley Road and Carmel Rancho Boulevard.
