FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FULL OVERNIGHT CLOSURE ON HIGHWAY 1 AT RAGGED POINT SCHEDULED FOR TONIGHT CANCELLED/FULL CLOSURES WILL RESUME NEXT MONTH

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY – Caltrans has announced that the closure of Highway 1 from north of the San Carpoforo Creek Bridge to south of the Ragged Point Inn scheduled for this evening from 9 pm until 5 am tomorrow has been cancelled. Caltrans completed the installation of soldier piles ahead of schedule so the closure for this evening is not necessary.

There will be no full overnight closures the week of September 1, but they are expected to resume next month. Caltrans will announce the exact schedule when the dates and times are certain.

When these closures resume, emergency vehicles and local residents will maintain access within the closed area.

One-way reversing traffic control continues weekly during the daytime hours Monday thru Thursday from 5 am until 4 pm and on Fridays from 6 am until 4 pm.

A temporary traffic signal will be activated in September allowing two-way traffic in each direction 24/7 until project completion. Electronic message boards will alert the public.

These highway closures and traffic control is part of an emergency project to construct a viaduct and retaining wall on Highway 1 near Ragged Point.

The contractor for this $4.1 million project is Souza Engineering of San Luis Obispo, CA. It’s scheduled to be complete by Spring of 2020.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.
